How Do Fees in Family Law Cases Work? NC Lawyers at Kurtz & Blum

Domestic cases involve the most private details of people’s lives. What happens in a custody, alimony, equitable distribution or child support case depends entirely on those personal details and the people involved. Because some cases can be settled quickly and some can take months or years, the attorney’s fees are billed at an hourly rate. That way, you only pay for what you need and you stay in control of the cost. Your confidential consultation is scheduled for an hour, and you pay a discounted rate for the initial consultation.

When we meet, I will advise you based on what you share with me; I won’t simply listen and offer no solutions unless you sign a contract. If you decide that you’d like for me to help you, you will need to make a trust deposit before I can begin work on your case. The trust deposit serves as a retainer and a security deposit. The amount of the trust deposit depends on the kind of case you have and what work needs to be done. After your case has been completed and your attorney’s fees are paid in full, your remaining trust deposit is returned to you.

Compare Top Attorneys in Raleigh, North Carolina

The Justia Lawyer Directory is a listing of lawyers, legal aid organizations, and pro bono legal service organizations. Whether you were injured, are accused of a crime, or are merely engaging in everyday affairs that affect your legal rights or property, an attorney can help you resolve problems or prevent new ones from arising. You have been arrested and charged with a crime, such as DUI or shoplifting. You have been subjected to harassment or other discrimination at work. Use Justia to research and compare Raleigh attorneys so that you can make an informed decision when you hire your counsel.

It is important to research an attorney before hiring him or her. Although prior results are not indicative of the likelihood of success in your case, they can help you make an informed decision. Also worth serious consideration is the attorney’s location, particularly if you will be traveling to visit him or her for consultations. Finally, research an attorney to see whether he or she has ever been subject to discipline. Although disciplinary actions do not necessarily impact the attorney’s competence to handle your case, they may affect your decision whether to hire.
