RALEIGH, N.C. – A federal judge last Thursday declared a mentally ill man fit for trial on a terrorism charge 10 months after the man started getting forcible injections with drugs that made him competent to defend himself in court. U.S. District Judge Terrence Boyle declared Sheikh mentally competent to stand trial. Kellhofer told Boyle during a 2015 hearing – when a shackled Sheikh shouted incoherently for several minutes before being carried from the courtroom by federal marshals – that prosecuting and convicting Sheikh was important in order to deter other would-be American radicals. Sheikh represents one of the rare cases in which federal prosecutors persuaded courts to approve a forced medication order. The suspect has even participated successfully in a mock trial inside the prison to test Sheikh’s ability to understand what was happening and the roles of the opposing attorneys, Waters said.

Graduate of Camden High School and Winthrop University, Ms. Beleos was a devoted real estate agent for Allen Tate Realtors serving the Charlotte metropolitan area for over 35 years. Her charm, a strong pulse of the Greek Orthodox community in Charlotte. She was preceded in death by her parents, Euthemia B. and Theodore G. Beleos, and her brother, George T. Beleos. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 AM. Interment will take place in Camden, SC at the Old Quaker Cemetery at 3:30 PM.
